The Programme for Independent Travel Training
Hi and welcome to our website.
As we have moved into another academic year we are busier than ever training young people. It never ceases to amaze me how enthusiastic young people are and how much they value their independence.
Following on from the visit by HRH The Princess Royal to the travel training area at Beacon Hill School the profile of the Programme for Independent Travel Training has been raised further and, we have received numerous requests for support and assistance in other Local Authority areas and schools. This provides national recognition for our wonderful initiative in promoting independence for all students and something we are all immensely proud of.
The Programme for Independent Travel Training (PITT) is an exiting travel training scheme that assists students of all ages to travel independently. This can be walking, cycling, by bus, light railway (tube/metro), train, tram, ferry or even aeroplane.
The principles are generally the same for all, although some require a little more planning than others.
We offer independent travel training programmes for all students with a learning difficulty and/or disability who are studying in full-time education. These programmes help to prepare students to travel independently either on evenings, weekends or after they have completed their education.
All of our training programmes are taught by fully trained and accredited staff who have undergone CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) validation. The programmes are flexible, considering each persons individual needs as well as the service provision in the area.
We also offer a consultancy service where an audit of service provision for a specific school, geographical area or Local Authority area.
I do hope that you enjoy the information contained within the website and if you feel that this exiting opportunity is something you could get involved with, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
